Gordon Brown Quotes
James Gordon Brown (born 20 February 1951) is the Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom and will become Prime Minister on or shortly after 27 June 2007.[1] He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Dunfermline East in Fife from 1983 to 2005 and, following a reorganisation of parliamentary constituencies in Scotland, is now MP for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath.
Brown has headed HM Treasury since May 1997, making him the longest continuously serving Chancellor since Nicholas Vansittart (1812-1823). He is widely regarded as the second most powerful member of the current British government after the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, as opposed to the Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott.
